This change matters because most insurance companies use Medicare rates as their baseline to determine what they pay therapists. If Medicare lowers its rates, that opens the door for insurance companies to do the same.
The drop is small (-0.40%), but it’s part of an overall alarming trend of gradually tightening the screws on therapists.
Here’s what you can do. It only takes 60 seconds.
- Write something similar to (or copy and paste this):
“I am strongly opposed to the proposed decrease in reimbursement rates for CPT Code 90791. This harms providers and, in turn, the public’s access to mental health care — not only by failing to provide an appropriate increase for inflation, but by actually decreasing the revenue received. This acts as a strong disincentive to spend the proper amount of time needed to properly assess a new client.”

- Do not attach any files.
- Enter your email and/or contact information.
